Philip Martin’s comes from the names of the founder's two sons, Filippo and Martina. The third son, Tommaso, gives the name to the children's line "Tommy Baby". It is pronounced "Filip Martins”.
All Philip Martin's products are made in Veneto Italy, by Italian producers. For this reason we have decided to put MADE OF ITALY in our logo, taking a stylistic license to make it clear that the products are all Italian products, made in Italy, by Italians.
Philip Martin’s does not carry out or commission animal testing, according to EU regulations (EC) 1223/2009 on cosmetic products. EU guidelines state that the use of the claim “cruelty free” could imply that other companies aren’t, and this could be misleading. Considering this we have decided not to brag about something which is forbidden by law, therefore the products do not carry the claim or symbols connected to the absence of animal testing. It’s important to add that the logos that represent the “bunny/cruelty free” claim, which often require a subscription to certain private companies, are not compulsory or necessary to guarantee the compliance of current regulations.
Some products contain fragrances that contain allergens. A list of all products can be found on the back of each package.
We cannot guarantee that some products, especially during different manufacturing stages, have been contaminated by ingredients that contain gluten. However, no link has been shown between skin absorption and celiac disease.
All of our products are paraban free. The Parabans used in preserving the products have been replaced by naturally derived ingredients such as vitamin C and E.
Silicones are only present in our products whey they are essential for the function of those specific products. The silicones we use derive from silicon and are defined as "volatile", they are easily removed from the hair with shampoo and do not start the performance of technical treatments.
We do not use SLS or SLES in our shampoo. However, we make use of Coco-Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate and other surfactants derived from babassu and coconut. These are all foaming ingredients used for cleaning and therefore have similar functions. The difference is that the starting ingredients used to make these foaming ingredients are derived from vegetables (coconut or babassu).
Nickel is a heavy metal found in many commonly used objects and foods and can only be present in cosmetics in unavoidable traces. Neither Philip Martin's nor other cosmetic companies are in a position to give the certainty of the absolute absence of this substance in their products.
Philip Martin's products contain fragrances. An element that distinguishes our brand is Sensoriality, this makes each beauty routine and professional treatment an unforgettable moment.
Some Philip Martin's products contain alcohol, this is essential in some formulations to solubilize active ingredients or resins. Our formulas are perfectly balanced so as not to damage the hair and skin.
No, our products do not contain nanomaterials.
Any product containing water is at risk for microbial contamination. To prevent this we use food preservatives which are in compliance with European Regulation.
It is not possible to calculate the sun protection factor (SPF) of hair products, as they are applied to the hair and not to the skin.
In Philip Martin’s products there are ingredients from both natural (in certain cases from specific organic farming) as well as synthetic sources. The synergy and combination of these types of ingredients provide excellent performance, professional quality and optimal conditions for product preservation and stability. A full list of ingredients of each product can be requested from support@philipmartins.za.com. Please note that there is no specific regulation that allows for the disassociation of natural/organic products from other product categories. Natural/organic products are a part of the cosmetic definition given by the EU – they must therefore respect the requirements connected to safety and product information. Contrary to the common perception of consumers, “natural” or “organic” ingredients (and products) are not necessarily safer than ingredients of “synthetic” origin.
“There are no specific regulations that distinguish vegan cosmetics from other product categories, hence these products are classified under the definition of cosmetics given by the EU and must respect the requirements established by these norms. The term “vegan” is used by companies for marketing and communication purposes. If by “vegan”, one is referring to products that do not contain animal ingredients or sub-products, then many Philip Martin’s products can be considered to be vegan. However, even though a large percentage of our products do not contain animal-derived ingredients such as beeswax, keratin derivatives and caviar, for example. The composition of the products is always given on the packaging and verifies the presence or lack of any ingredients that are not suitable for vegans, and this check can be done directly by the consumer. By saying “vegan” one is referring to products obtained via processes without reactants that are animal-derived and/or excludes ingredients tested on animals, then this becomes more difficult to establish in terms of whether the product is vegan or not. The reactants do not appear on the ingredients list, and the confirmation/denial of their use and their origin is very difficult to trace. If “vegan” means to include the claim “not tested on animals”, it is important to remember that EU guidelines state that this claim is misleading, because all the components in cosmetic products in the present day on the market must have been analysed via animal testing in the past and this was historically acceptable, to ensure that these products would not damage consumers. It is more likely that those consumers who are sensitive to a vegan lifestyle lean towards the amplest meaning of the word. Considering the above statement, in the respect of these consumers and EU guidelines, we do not claim that our products are “vegan”, even if those products do not contain animal ingredients.
Ingested peanuts are often responsible for allergic reactions. The main nuts involved in food allergies are almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashew, pecan, Brazil, pistachio and macadamia nuts. There are documented cases of cross-reactivity between different types of nuts and legumes. Considering this, determining whether ingredients derived from these substances are present or not requires extreme prudence and caution. Even if ingredients obtained from peanuts or nuts (e.g. almond oil) are present in some of our formulas, these are not added to most of our formulas. In the latter, we cannot certify the complete absence of these substances. In the production of our cosmetics, a large number of raw materials from various suppliers are used. Machinery, locations and production processes are varied. This complexity makes it impossible to guarantee that our products are 100% free from traces of these substances that could give an allergic reaction to those individuals who are sensitive to peanuts, nuts and legumes.
Philip Martin’s products do not contain milk proteins. Food sensitivity to a particular substance does not necessarily imply that there will be a skin allergy to the same substance; however, this cannot be excluded entirely. A deeper analysis can be done by a medical doctor, We suggest that you read the ingredients list on the product carefully and ask for clarification and further information from your doctor if you have any allergies.
We pay close attention to the concerns about alleged endocrine interference in cosmetics. All new raw materials are being examined and the ingredients we currently use are constantly being assessed. Our aim is to ensure that our products are safe and that they do not contain any endocrine interfering products. Although neither Philip Martin’s nor no other cosmetic brand are in a position to provide certainty for the complete absence of this substance in its products.
The Philip Martins philosophy has always been focused on the health of the user. For this reason Philip Martin’s has always been committed and always strives not to use products that are harmful to the user, such as formaldehyde and/or formaldehyde-releasing preservatives.
The expiry date of the closed (unopened) product is approximately 3 years. When opened, the product has a variable maturity of 6 to 12 months. The expiry date is indicated on the package under the indication Pao.

Philip Martin's does not guarantee the quality of the product after this period.
Philip Martin's cosmetic products are completely safe; there are no particular contraindications to their use during pregnancy. To guarantee safety, all Philip Martin's cosmetic products comply with the European Regulation 1223/2009 and the main international regulations and are evaluated by professional safety assessors. The mixture of Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) and Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCIT) is used in cosmetics as a preservative to counteract the development of microorganisms. Following the observation of an increase in allergic reactions to MIT, the use of this mixture was prohibited in cosmetics that do not require rinsing by Regulation 1003/2014. This preservative is not used in Philip Martin’s.
The decision to use plastic over other types of materials is due to its greater ease of use by the end customer. In addition, more energy is required to recycle glass than plastic; glass has a much longer decomposition time than plastic. The paper used for packaging comes from forests managed in a correct and responsible way. Nonetheless, Philip Martin's is committed to researching increasingly eco-sustainable materials.
Allergies are a response of the immune system, the natural defence system of the body, to substances that are recognised as being foreign and therefore dangerous. If in the past you have had any kind of reaction after having used cosmetic products, and you want to ensure that these episodes will not be repeated by using our products, we suggest that you consult your doctor, who can evaluate this in a deeper and personalised manner. If you do have allergies and have identified the substances that cause your allergic reaction (through medical testing), to avoid coming into contact with these substances, you can verify the presence of substances within the ingredients list on the packaging of the product before purchasing or using the product.
Yes, all Philip Martin’s cosmetic products are safe. Safety and the safeguarding of the health of consumers is guaranteed by respecting EU regulation 1223/2009 and the main international legislations that give a series of rules and limitations based on solid scientific principles. In particular, having been developed complying with European regulations, our cosmetics are scrutinised by professional safety checks and experts who evaluate the ingredients, the finished product and the function of each product to establish whether each cosmetic product is safe.

The word “inci”, more often referred to cosmetic products, is an acronym that stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients: in other words, it is the list of basic ingredients of cosmetic products often abbreviated to international acronyms. Normally, the label of a product shows, after the name, the most important active ingredients that it contains, which are those with the highest concentration.
The first ingredients have a higher concentration percentage which gradually decreases in percentage to the last one which has the lowest concentration.
The pH of the products varies according to the type of product, and the function it is required to perform.
A change in color does not affect the performance of the product and the product can therefore still be used.

The products should be stored in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight.
